This is coming in a little late, but here it is anyway

I got back about a week ago from my first big vacation. A friend of my dad’s got married to an Argentine woman, and they planned a big Argentine wedding. Peace Corps of no Peace Corps I wasn’t about to miss that. I am entirely too lazy to give a complete rundown of our adventures in Argentina, but I would like to share/bore you with a few of my favorite moments:
The look of disgust and horror on the pedicurist’s face as she scraped thick layers of calluses off my feet.
Having coffee and media lunas (like sweet croissants) every morning in the little café down the street from our apartment.
Wandering in the giant national cemetery, imagining live people/zombies living in the ornate aboveground tombs.
Good food. Such good food. And more fruits and vegetables than I had seen for months.
Sleeping on a couch. Oh I miss couches.
Our fabulous dinner at a chef’s house that combined good food, good company, and good wine. What could be better?
Catching up with Avery and hearing all about her adventures abroad. Thanks for all the great tips, Aves!
Eating sausages and drinking coke by the soccer stadium in La Boca (which I liked a lot better than the crazed tourist frenzy that is the rest of La Boca. Skip the silly painted houses and find yourself a chory.)
The wedding!!! It really did begin at 9 pm and keep going until 6 am. It really did include round after round of food and dancing. And we really did don silly hats after the 4 am desert café to keep us dancing until the coffee and media lunas at dawn. If y’all ever get a chance to go to one of these things don’t let it slip away.
Hanging out with mom and dad!
I don’t know when my next vacation will be, but I certainly hope that it is as fun and relaxing as this one was. Thanks again to mom, dad, David, and Lisa for such a great time.
And we loved being in Argentina with you, too! I’d add the gorgeous huge floral sculpture in the park, built by an airline company! And what about shopping, where everything was $10! And how much beef did we eat in one week? As much as we normally consume in six months!
But spending a week with you was such a treat – we miss you – and wish those weeks could be more frequent!
